Intrapersonal - Self Smart
These students are self-motivated, reflective, and quiet observers. They prefer to watch and listen before jumping into a conversation. Often times they prefer to work alone, taking time to process new ideas and sometimes daydream. Intrapersonally strong students also need time to recharge away from the busy and often loud classroom setting.
To develop intrapersonal intelligence, give students time at the end of each day to reflect on what they have learned and experienced in a journal, blog, or writing activity. They are good at setting personal goals, so involve in the process whenever possible. Be sure to allow them to work at their own pace during class time.
Technology Applications and Tools that Assist this type of learning include:
- EduBlogs: Students can reflect on topics or questions posed by the class and respond in their own time
- Penzu: Online journal in which students can keep track of their daily experiences and thoughts
- Raz-Kids: An example of a reading program that shows a reader's progress. It's important for interpersonal learners to recognize areas of self growth
- Animoto: Tools such as Animoto allows students to create their own reflective photo videos
Other helpful classroom activities include:
- Meditation: Have the class calm down and meditate after highly stimulating transitions or recesses
- Daily Journaling: Have a daily morning journal question for the students to complete
